When a company like Walgreens invests $4.38b to acquire a strategic portion of a major competitor, it needs competent and committed partners who can execute a monumental brand conversion program without delay. Through a thorough and well-vetted review process, Walgreens selected Cima as a partner to convert a significant portion of the Rite Aid locations to the Walgreens brand standard.

challenges

Through an aggressive timeline, demanding municipal approvals, and exacting project management requirements, Cima converted the exterior branding for 209 former Rite Aid locations across 13 East coast states, completing every single location conversion entirely on-schedule.

Each location required surveys and technical analysis, site branding booklets, signage removal, exterior refresh and refurbishment across a variety of building and façade types, and the fabrication & installation of new Walgreens brand signage.  To ensure that the RiteAid legacy branding remained until final conversion for each location’s grand reopening as a Walgreens, additional temporary banner installations & removals were required at precise intervals.  In total, the massive project required the planning and coordination of at least 5 separate Cima crew mobilizations per location.

Bill Lockett, CEO, Cima, adds: “At Cima, we take great pride and personal accountability in our program management and continuously try to improve our service delivery. From day one, we were very excited to collaborate with Sevan and Walgreens to provide a seamless and well-executed brand rollout for one of the largest brand conversions in the United States.”

solutions

A large part of Cima’s program management process was focused on proactive due diligence in obtaining permits, variances, inspections, and closeout.  All progress was communicated through Walgreens’ project management software. Cima had to navigate multiple obstacles to obtain the necessary permits for each location, including alcohol and food & beverage license boards, use and occupancy licenses, etc.
