Pep Boys

Cima has fabricated Pep Boys’ signage since our founding in 2008, and we were proud to create a signage and environmental-branding program that brought Manny, Moe and Jack back to their rightful place as the brand centerpiece. The store rebranding began with the Allegheny Ave. location across the street from Pep Boys’ corporate headquarters.

  • Facade
  • ACM Banding
  • Channel Letters
  • Architectural Lighting

Challenges
• Developing concept drawings and guidelines that provide consistent branding across all stores
• Fabricating and forming aluminum-composite material (ACM), a rigid substrate, into panels that conform to the frame paneling
• Sourcing a custom simulated-woodgrain pattern for the ACM
• Completing what would typically be a 3-4 day installation in a single day

After

With a clear plan, teamwork in all phases, and attention to detail, we transformed the flagship Pep Boys store in one day. The client was thrilled, and the rebrand has gradually been unveiled at more than 100 Pep Boys stores nationwide.

How We Helped

  • We delivered 3D renderings that thoroughly articulated the concept and production details to win stakeholder buy-in
  •  Thoroughly tested Alpolic with several fabrication methods to ensure it could be machined and shaped to building contours
  • We collaborated with Mitsubishi Plastics Composites, the Alpolic ACM manufacturer, to develop a custom woodgrain finish that provides an authentic look and texture
  • On installation day, we brought a nine-man crew (plus supervisors) and four lifts and bucket trucks to the site to ensure the job was done efficiently and effectively
