Tip for Today #9: Transform Your Space with Digital Printing
The advantage of digital printing when it comes to wall graphics is versatility and ease to apply a graphic to a wall. You’re not hiring somebody to mask off striping or an image, and then paint. There’s a lot of labor involved with that. Whereas we could print a 20 foot run of wall graphic that has the entire image on it, and it can be installed in a matter of hours, rather than a muralist or a painter spending days just masking off the space.
Corporations put a lot of care into color selection. So it’s really important that the artwork that comes over matches the output that’s coming off your press, because what’s on the screen is done by light and what’s coming off your press is done by ink and that image can look different on different substrates unless you dial in the color properly.
So it’s really about finding a harmony between all substrates, especially in an environment inside or outside where you have mixed media. So you have some things might be made outta plastic and some being made outta metal and some might be like a window graphic or a vinyl. You need to make sure that that branding is consistent across all substrates.
I think it helps ’em expand their imagery to places they may not have been considering originally. So maybe they have like a wall space that’s blank, or they have a window display that they’re not sure what they’re going to do. And they might leave it open ended for us to say, like, how can I direct the customer around my space better.
When we start to implement our experience and sort of guide them along, it takes their general concept and general aesthetic, and really turns it into something real for them. Printing involves a lot of problem solving and we never stop experimenting. We need to combine materials and processes to create something that’s unique for the customer.
